Western Kentucky Sees Spike of New COVID-19 Cases, Deaths

The Green River District Health Department, which oversees seven western Kentucky counties, reported a high number of new positive COVID-19 cases and deaths on Tuesday.

According to the Green River District Health Department (GRDHD)'s Tuesday report, 260 new positive cases of COVID-19 and 10 new COVID-19 deaths have been identified in the health department's seven-county Kentucky area.

GRDHD's report shows most of those new positive COVID-19 cases in Daviess County, and the majority of the new COVID-19 deaths in Ohio County.

Here's a breakdown of the new COVID-19 cases and deaths reported Tuesday by GRDHD:

  • Daviess County: 179 new cases, 3 new deaths
  • Hancock County: 2 new cases
  • Henderson County: 17 new cases, 2 new deaths
  • McLean County: 12 new
  • Ohio County: 33 new cases, 5 new deaths
  • Union County: 6 new cases
  • Webster County: 11 new cases

Tuesday's report brought the total number of positive COVID-19 cases in the GRDHD district to 17,181, and the total number of district-wide deaths to 294.

The state of Kentucky is currently reporting 347,836 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 3,460 total statewide deaths.

The combination of sunshine and southerly winds will make for another abnormally mild day throughout the Ohio Valley - expect an afternoon high temperature near 69° this afternoon. Friday evening looks as though it will be just as pleasant; after seeing the upper 60s earlier in the day, we'll dip to 60° by 5 PM before falling towards 54° around 7 o’clock. We are however, watching a passing low pressure system and accompanying cold front that is expected to pass through the Tri-State late Friday evening and early Saturday morning.
