The Princeton Police Department says 18-year-old Maliki Billings of Princeton, Indiana, was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder on Wednesday after a shooting incident in the 400 block of E. Spruce Street.

PPD says the investigation began after the department was notified of two separate calls, which ended up being related. One call was for a gunshot wound victim in the ER at Gibson Deaconess Hospital, and the other was for a disturbance that led to an alleged robbery.

The gunshot victim was identified as 18-year-old Isaiah Jones of Princeton, who was brought to the hospital by a friend. PPD's initial investigation indicated that Billings was the one who allegedly shot Jones.

Jones was taken to Evansville by ambulance for a gunshot wound to the side of the head and middle chest area. PPD says he was talking but that his condition is currently unknown.

According to PPD, Billings made the 2nd call to the department about the robbery. When officers responded, they immediately took Billings into custody.

After a statement was taken from Billings and witnesses, PPD says Billings was booked into the Gibson County Jail on charges of Attempted Murder.

The investigation remains ongoing at this time.

It was an absolutely gorgeous afternoon throughout the Tri-State, but despite our seemingly endless supply of sunshine today, temperatures remained more than 10° cooler than the norm for this time of the year. Fortunately, today's peak temperature of 65° represents our coolest anticipated afternoon high temperature through the remainder of our extended forecast. While it is indeed encouraging that temperatures will gradually rise through the rest of the work week into the weekend ahead, we'll still have to deal with temperatures back down into the upper 30s and low 40s early Thursday morning.
