34-year-old Anthony M. Pierce of Keensburg and 31-year-old Wendy Odom of Mt. Carmel were seriously injured on Thursday after their vehicle was hit by a falling tree, according to the Wabash County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office says the incident happened on Thursday before 7:00 p.m. as the two were driving down Highway 1 south.

When the responding deputy arrived, he determined that high winds caused a tree to fall and land on the 2003 Nissan that was transporting the pair.

Both Pierce and Odom were transported to an Evansville hospital where they're being treated for reportedly-serious injuries.

The sheriff's office says multiple agencies were on the scene to assist with the crash and clearing of the tree.
