20 Illinois Counties Placed in COVID-19 'Warning' Status

20 of the state's 102 counties have been placed in COVID-19 'warning' status, including one county in the 44News viewing area, White County.

20 Illinois counties have been placed in COVID-19 'warning' status by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The state health department keeps watch of several indicators that measure the health impact of COVID-19 on each Illinois county. Indicators that capture each county's ability to respond to COVID-19 are also monitored by IDPH.

A key factor monitored by IDPH is positivity rate. Increases in test positivity are flagged, investigated, and reported to Gov. Pritzker's team.

County COVID-19 metrics are intended to be used by local leaders, businesses, and health departments to make informed decisions and promote healthy behaviors. Individuals and families are also encouraged to use the data to make informed choices on gatherings and activities they choose to do.
