A 25-year-old inmate at the Vanderburgh County Confinement Center is now dead after he was first found unresponsive on Saturday morning.
The confinement officer assigned to the booking area where the inmate was discovered immediately called for assistance," said a release from the Sheriff's Office. "Medical staff responded to the booking cell and began administering CPR. Medics from the Evansville Fire Department and American Medical Response then arrived to assist."
By 6:30 a.m., he was pronounced dead.
While no foul play is suspected, the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Section is investigating the death.
"The inmate was checked periodically throughout the night and was found unresponsive during morning inmate roll call count," the release states.
Duane Garry Jr. of Evansville was originally in jail on charges of Dealing in a controlled substance: cocaine or narcotic drug, Dealing in a controlled substance: marijuana/hashish/salvia and Violation of Parole Warrant.
The Vanderburgh County Coroner will conduct an autopsy on Garry Jr. later this week.
