A Christmas tradition is returning to downtown Henderson, Kentucky beginning on Friday.

The 36th annual "Christmas in the Park" celebration will kick off in Henderson's Central Park at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, with a tree lighting ceremony.

Friday's festivities will include the lighting of the 67-foot Christmas tree by decree of Henderson Mayor Steve Austin, plus Christmas music by the Henderson County High School Band and Henderson County High School Choir starting around 5:30 p.m.

According to city officials, more than 15,000 holiday lights will be included in the Christmas in the Park display, along with more than 30 displays.

There will also be a mailbox for kids to send letters to Santa Claus. Anyone who drops off a letter before Dec. 15 and includes a return address will receive a reply.

After Friday, the Christmas time display in Central Park will be in place throughout the month of December.

Wow!!!! It's cold!!!! After a trace of snow in Evansville and some highe amounts to the south, we're waking up to temperatures in the mid to upper teens across the Tri-State. Thankfully, road crews did a fantastic job treating the roads to keep conditions from getting slick. However, the northerly winds gusting as high as 15 to 20 mph has dropped wind chill values into the single digits and even below zero in our western communities. There won't be much of an improvement in temperatures this afternoon. With the strong northerly wind flow and dry skies our highs will only reach the mid to upper 20s. Winds will stay quite breezy keeping the wind chill factor in place through the day.
