AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation, has announced its plans for a new solar energy project in Pike County, Indiana.
The project, called The Petersburg Solar Project, will include the construction of a 250 MW solar field and a 180MWh energy storage facility in Pike County.
According to AES Indiana, the Petersburg Solar Project will connect to AES Indiana's existing Petersburg Generating Station, which is between Indiana 57 and the White River in Petersburg.
Power generated by the project will power the equivalent of 45,000 homes during peak hours, according to AES Indiana.
AES Indiana says it will acquire the project from a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, LLC, and that NextEra Energy Resources will develop and construct the project.
The Petersburg Solar Project will require approval by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC). If approved, the project is expected to be operational no later than May 1, 2024.
The project is also expected to bring new construction jobs and new tax revenue to Pike County.
