An Owensboro man was arrested on Sunday evening after the Daviess County Sheriff's Office says he was found in possession of a large amount of drugs and cash after an accidental shooting that took place during an argument.

Deputies were dispatched to a home on Highway 2830 around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday after a woman said she had been assaulted and choked by her boyfriend, 26-year-old Coty N. Hollingsworth of Owensboro, Kentucky.

According to DCSO, a firearm that the woman was holding for protection was accidentally discharged during the struggle between the two, grazing Hollingsworth in the leg.

DCSO says after being injured in the struggle, Hollingsworth left the home in a vehicle but was stopped a short time later by a Kentucky State Police Trooper.

The Trooper said a firearm was in plain view in Hollingsworth's vehicle. A DCSO K9 was at the scene of the traffic stop and alerted on the vehicle.

During a search of Hollingsworth's vehicle, DCSO says suspected meth, cocaine, LSD, marijuana, and pills were found, in addition to over $7,000 cash.

After the conclusion of the investigation, Hollingsworth was arrested on a long list of charges:

  • Assault 4th Degree
  • Strangulation 1st Degree
  • Possession of Handgun by Convicted Felon
  • Trafficking in Meth 2nd OFfense
  • Trafficking in LSD
  • Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Drug Unspecified - 3 counts)
  • Trafficking in Controlled Substance 2nd Degree (Drug Unspecified)
  • Trafficking in Marijuana
  • Possession of Cocaine
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Operating on a Suspended License

Hollingsworth remains in the Daviess County Jail.

We're waking up to dry and cold conditions this Tuesday morning. As we head into the afternoon, temperatures won't rise much. Highs are only going to be in the mid to upper 30s. Skies will be mostly cloudy with a chance of flurries overnight. It won't be a big snow by any stretch, but you could see some flurries flying Tuesday night into Wednesday morning around the Tri-State. Don't expect more than a dusting, with greater chances falling north of I-64.
