A measure on the Illinois ballot, that would have changed the way income taxes are structured in the state fails.

Governor J.B. Pritzker was optimistic that the tax amendment would get support from Illinois voters.

The amendment would have split taxes into 6 graduated income rates beginning Jan. 1.

In the end, 55% of voters chose to keep the state income tax the same flat rate of 4.95%.
