The Arc of Evansville has announced it will close the Arc Industries Plant 1 facility.
In a WARN notice filed to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, The Arc of Evansville explains that a sudden budget reduction that came as a result of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic caused the Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services (DDRS) to eliminate state-funded Community-Based Sheltered Work and Facility-Based Sheltered Work.
The Arc of Evansville, which provides employment and training to individuals with disabilities, says the defunding has significantly impacted many individuals with disabilities that The Arc of Evansville serves, as well as The Arc of Evansville staff.
"Due to this decision, The Arc of Evansville is ceasing operations at Arc Industries Plant 1 - 2515 Kotter Ave, Evansville, IN 47715," the WARN notice reads.
Approximately 35 staff members will be affected by the Arc Industries Plant 1 closure, a majority of which will experience layoffs.
The expected date of the first permanent layoff at the worksite is Aug 14, 2020, according to The Arc of Evansville. After that, the second and final round of permanent layoffs will happen around Sept 29, 2020.
