Evansville Police were on the scene of an officer-involved shooting at Stringtown Road and Reis Avenue in Evansville on Friday.

According to police, the suspect was armed and was shot by an Evansville Police Department Officer and a Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Deputy after failing to comply with officers' commands.

The sheriff's office says the suspect crashed into the back of a sheriff's patrol vehicle, before also crashing into a telephone pole.

While attempting to flee his vehicle, VCSO Sheriff Dave Wedding says the suspect opened fire on multiple law enforcement officers at the scene.

Officers were attempting to serve a warrant for the subject's arrest on drug-related charges.

The identity of the suspect hasn't been released at this time. His autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
