BMV Asks Customers to Avoid Cash Payments Due to Coin Shortage

The Bureau of Motor Vehicles is asking its customers to limit the use of cash when possible due to the national coin shortage.

The Burea of Motor Vehicles (BMV) is asking its customers to pay with a credit card or check when possible to complete transactions.

According to the BMV, the request is being made due to the national coin shortage, which the BMV says has had a direct impact on its branches.

Several weeks ago, the BMV required all branches to take steps to help reduce the impact of the national coin shortage and is now asking its customers to only pay with exact change if they must pay with cash.

According to the BMV, the Federal Reserve has not provided a timeline on when the coin shortage will be resolved - but that inventory is expected to return to previous levels once coins begin to circulate as they once were.

The national shortage of coins has been blamed on widespread COVID-19 shutdowns, which caused a disruption in the circulation of coins.
