Winner of Owensboro Burger Week Announced After Sales Net Nearly $70k

24 different restaurants participated in Owensboro Burger Week, raking in nearly $70,000 in burger sales alone - but after a long week of selling thousands of burgers, only one restaurant took home the trophy.

A record number of burgers were sold over the past week during Owensboro Burger Week 2021.

According to Visit Owensboro, which hosted the event in partnership with the City of Owensboro, 11,606 burgers were sold for $6 a piece during burger week, netting $69,636 in sales.

24 restaurants participated in the event, but only one business received the trophy for best overall burger.

O’Bryan’s Bar & Grill took home the trophy for best overall burger for their double bacon mozzarella cheese stick burger. A blind tasting from an eight-person judging panel composed of experts and burger fans awarded O’Bryan’s the highest overall average score of 88.75 out of 100 possible points.

“I didn’t see this coming. I bought this business just before the pandemic hit. The fact the community have supported me through this. This community is amazing. Burger Week was crazy. I saw a ton of unfamiliar faces,” said Eric Ashworth, O’Bryan’s Bar & Grill Owner.

Legends Sports Bar & Grill finished in second place and Wonder Whip finished third, but Beef ‘O’ Brady’s sold the most featured burgers during Owensboro Burger Week at 1,377 burgers sold.

“We can’t say thank you enough to both the restaurants who worked tirelessly to make this inaugural event happen and to customers who supported Burger Week. Over $69,636 were spent in just five days on burgers sales alone. When you take those burger sales and add in people buying other food and drinks, you’ve created an enormous economic impact,” said Dave Kirk, Visit Owensboro.

Visit Owensboro says the 24 participating restaurants saw on average a 245% growth in burger sales for the week.

Owensboro Burger Week was made possible by the Kentucky Beef Council, Independence Bank, Green River Appliance and Hill View Farms Meats. Owensboro Burger Week will return in late Winter/Early Spring of 2022.

It was an absolutely gorgeous afternoon throughout the Tri-State, but despite our seemingly endless supply of sunshine today, temperatures remained more than 10° cooler than the norm for this time of the year. Fortunately, today's peak temperature of 65° represents our coolest anticipated afternoon high temperature through the remainder of our extended forecast. While it is indeed encouraging that temperatures will gradually rise through the rest of the work week into the weekend ahead, we'll still have to deal with temperatures back down into the upper 30s and low 40s early Thursday morning.
