COVID-19 Hospitalizations Continue to Climb in Indiana

COVID-19 hospitalizations continued to climb in Indiana on Monday as the state health department reported another 2,916 new positive cases of the virus.

The Indiana State Department of Health showed an increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations in its statewide report Monday.

According to ISDH, there are now 2,221 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 throughout the state - an increase of 55 patients from the previous day's number of 2,166.

Just last week, Deaconess health system said it was treating its highest number of COVID-19 patients since the pandemic's beginning. 

While Deaconess is dealing with the most patients it's seen to date, the entirety of Indiana hasn't surpassed its record-high number of 3,460 COVID-19 hospitalizations, which was recorded back in November of 2020.

State Health Department Reports 2,916 New Positive COVID-19 Cases

The Indiana State Department of Health said Monday that another 2,916 Hoosiers had tested positive for COVID-19. That brought the total number of known COVID-19 cases in the state to date to 855,031.

No new COVID-19 deaths were reported in the state on Monday, though ISDH said another 439 probable deaths had been reported based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is on record.

To date, 13,980 Hoosiers are confirmed to have died from COVID-19 to date, according to ISDH.

Of the new COVID-19 cases identified throughout the state Monday, many were identified here locally in southwest Indiana.

New local COVID-19 cases reported Monday:

  • Vanderburgh County: 165 new positive cases
  • Warrick County: 54 new cases
  • Gibson County: 29 new positive cases
  • Pike County: 24 new cases
  • Posey County: 15 new cases
  • Perry County: 14  new cases
  • Daviess County: 14 new cases
  • Dubois County: 13 new cases
  • Spencer County: 12 new cases
  • Knox County: 6 new cases

The combination of sunshine and southerly winds will make for another abnormally mild day throughout the Ohio Valley - expect an afternoon high temperature near 69° this afternoon. Friday evening looks as though it will be just as pleasant; after seeing the upper 60s earlier in the day, we'll dip to 60° by 5 PM before falling towards 54° around 7 o’clock. We are however, watching a passing low pressure system and accompanying cold front that is expected to pass through the Tri-State late Friday evening and early Saturday morning.
