A new push is being made to name Central High School's football field after the late Coach Mike Owen.

Coach Owen worked as a teacher and coach at CHS for some 42 years, guiding generations of students throughout their youth along the way. He passed away back in 2019 from leukemia.

The EVSC Foundation says its goal is to name Central's field after Coach Owen to honor his longtime commitment to the success of young people at CHS and in the Evansville, Indiana community.

The campaign created by the EVSC Foundation is attempting to raise $50,000. The EVSC Foundation says that funds raised beyond the cost of the turf naming project will go directly to CHS to support academic and athletic programs.

So far, around $2,000 has been donated to the campaign.

The combination of sunshine and southerly winds will make for another abnormally mild day throughout the Ohio Valley - expect an afternoon high temperature near 69° this afternoon. Friday evening looks as though it will be just as pleasant; after seeing the upper 60s earlier in the day, we'll dip to 60° by 5 PM before falling towards 54° around 7 o’clock. We are however, watching a passing low pressure system and accompanying cold front that is expected to pass through the Tri-State late Friday evening and early Saturday morning.
