One person is dead after a three-vehicle crash on US Route 45 just north of Cottonwood Road in Saline County, Illinois.
The Illinois State Police says 80-year-old Doyle E. Prince of Carmi, Illinois, was killed in the crash, which happened around 4:28 p.m. on Thursday.
According to ISP, the crash happened when Prince sideswiped a vehicle he was trying to pass on US Route 45. ISP says Prince's vehicle was sent across the center line into oncoming traffic, and that the vehicle he sideswiped was sent into a guard rail on the right side of the road.
After crossing the center line, ISP says Prince hit a truck head-on. The truck's driver was flown to the hospital with serious injuries.
ISP says that two kids and two adults were inside the vehicle that was sideswiped by Prince, but that none of them were injured as a result of the incident.
Traffic was restricted on US Route 45 until about 9:00 p.m. Thursday night as crews worked to clear the scene.
