A Thursday morning house fire on Harmony Way in Evansville claimed the life of a cat and displaced a resident, according to the Evansville Fire Department.
EFD says a passer-by called 911 to report a fire in the 1400 block of Harmony Way just before 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, with first responders arriving just minutes later.
When firefighters arrived, they determined this was a fire with heavy smoke at a two-story home that had been converted into three apartments.
EFD says the fire was in the upstairs apartment, and that it was extinguished in about five minutes, with fire damage contained to the upstairs section of the building, though the downstairs apartment did sustain some water damage.
No one was home at the apartment at the time of the fire though EFD says a cat perished in the flames. The Red Cross was notified to assist a displaced occupant.
EFD says the fire was determined to be accidental in nature.
