CenterPoint Energy said Wednesday that it had received approval from the IURC to acquire a 300-megawatt (MW) solar array in Posey County and purchase an additional 100MW of solar energy per year from a different project in Warrick County.

Following the IURC's approval, CenterPoint Energy says it entered into an agreement with Arevon Energy Management, which is the company that will build the utility-owned project in Posey County. Arevon Energy Management and energy company Tenaska are co-developing the project.

CenterPoint Energy says that the construction of that project is scheduled to be in service by 2023, beginning with the construction of a substation to connect the solar array to CenterPoint's power grid.

The utility's purchase agreement in Warrick County will entitle it to 100MW of energy per year for 25 years. CenterPoint says that agreement is with a company called Clēnera, which plans to have a solar array up-and-running in Warrick County by 2023.

“We’re pleased to receive regulatory approval to move forward with these significant renewable resources, which will serve our local electric customers, providing a cost-effective, stable energy option,” said Steve Greenley, Senior Vice President, Indiana Electric Operations for CenterPoint Energy. “We look forward to the continued work with these companies to bring the Posey County solar array to fruition and provide additional clean energy to our customers through the Warrick County PPA.”

With the Posey County project and the Warrick County agreement combined, CenterPoint Energy says enough energy will be produced to meet the needs of a combined 68,500 homes per year, while also helping large customers achieve their individual sustainability goals.
