Cherish Jewelers in Evansville hosted a Toys for Tots kick-off event on Saturday night.

The festivities included Mayor LLoyd Winnecke lighting the Christmas tree outside the shop, the Bosse High School choir singing Christmas carols and pictures with Santa.

"The tri-state does a great job. This is the season for giving, due to last years Covid-19 with everybody being shutdown and things being closed, this year everybody has really stepped up and made a lot of donations and we really do appreciate it," said Cherish Jeweler owner Gary Redford.

Refreshments of hot cocoa, hot cider and cupcakes were provided by Pie Pan Restaurant & Bakery.

Sgt. Todd Ringle with the Indiana State Police Department helped escort Santa.

Toys for children in need can be dropped off at the store.

Wow!!!! It's cold!!!! After a trace of snow in Evansville and some highe amounts to the south, we're waking up to temperatures in the mid to upper teens across the Tri-State. Thankfully, road crews did a fantastic job treating the roads to keep conditions from getting slick. However, the northerly winds gusting as high as 15 to 20 mph has dropped wind chill values into the single digits and even below zero in our western communities. There won't be much of an improvement in temperatures this afternoon. With the strong northerly wind flow and dry skies our highs will only reach the mid to upper 20s. Winds will stay quite breezy keeping the wind chill factor in place through the day.
