The Evansville Police Department was called to the 2500 block of Wexford Dr in Evansville around 3:20 a.m. on Wednesday morning on a report of gunshots outside of a residence in the area. Originally, police were told by the caller that a male had shot a female.
When officers arrived at the reported residence, both the male and female in question were still inside but refused to answer the door to speak with police.
EPD says since it was reported that someone was potentially shot, officers forced their way into the residence, where they located 24-year-old Carolanne Blackford and 27-year-old William Garnett, both of Evansville. EPD says Garnett had blood coming from his leg.
Witnesses told officers that Garnett had been pushing Blackford and that he pointed a handgun at her, at which point Blackford pulled out a gun of her own and shot Garnett in the lower leg.
EPD says firearms were recovered from both Garnett and Blackford by EPD's Crime Scene Unit.
After receiving treatment for a gunshot wound at the hospital, Garnett was transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail and charged with intimidation.
Blackford was also arrested and charged with domestic violence battery.
