Cool Weather Lingers, Rain Returns this Weekend

Cool temperatures linger, but rain may spoil some plans this Labor Day Weekend.

Today's high temperature of 81° was the River City's coolest in about two and a half weeks and we'll gladly take it! Our gorgeous afternoon will give way to and equally comfortable evening ahead; after falling to 68° by 10PM, temperatures will gradually dip toward the upper 50s and low 60s throughout the Ohio Valley. Friday morning's anticipated low of 58° would mark our coolest start to a day in just over four weeks! The last time we dealt with a temperature that cool was during the predawn hours August 5th. The cool temperatures early tomorrow will give way to yet another stunning day across the region - we'll tip the scales in the low 80s yet again, reaching 83° in Evansville Friday afternoon under mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies.

Friday evening will make for a perfect night to be out and about the Tri-State. Whether you're headed to one of our many high school football games, Friday After 5 in Owensboro, First Friday in Haynie's Corner or anywhere else for that matter, temperatures will remain in the mid to low 70s all evening with a comfortable southerly breeze. Be sure to make the most of the beautiful weather Friday, by the time Saturday rolls around, you may want to spend a bit more time indoors - an inbound core of low pressure and accompanying cold front will make for a rainier Saturday throughout the Tri-State. The latest model data suggests that the first of the rainfall will reach the region before 9AM and continue on and off during the day, though the heaviest rainfall will likely occur during the late morning and early afternoon.

As for the remainder of our holiday weekend, conditions aren't looking all that unfavorable. Saturday's passing cold front will ensure our Sunday will be cooler-than-average with a high near 82° under scattered cloud cover. Labor Day, however, looks as though it will be a bit more summer-like. Current projections suggest that the mercury will surge just in time for the unofficial end of summer - if the forecast holds, we'll top out near 88° in Evansville under mostly sunny skies; we may even see those feels like" temperatures reach up into the low 90s at times that afternoon.

Temperatures were a heck of a lot more bearable earlier this afternoon - despite our northwesterly winds, temperatures peaked at 54° in Evansville earlier on and are expected to remain quite comfortable as we head into the evening hours. Expect temperatures ranging from 48° to 41° between 7 PM and 10 PM; though the added cloud cover over the coming hours will only allow temperatures to fall as low as 38° by early Wednesday morning. It's not all good news however, it looks as though some of us (especially those north of the Ohio River) could see periods of scattered rainfall throughout our Wednesday morning.
