An ATV accident in White County on Monday claimed the life of a 38-year-old Carmi man.

According to the White County Coroner, 38-year-old Shawn Jones of Carmi, Illinois, was traveling on an ATV behind a home in the 300 block of Rotary St in Crossville around 5:43 p.m. on Monday.

The coroner says while Jones was driving the ATV, he hit a tree head-on. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Jones' autopsy is scheduled to take place later in the week.

At the time of the accident, Jones was the only occupant of the ATV.

Our snowy, slick start to the day gave way to a gloomy, gray and chilly afternoon throughout the Tri-State. After only reaching temperatures in the mid 30s early in the day, we will see temperatures gradually tumble back down into the upper 20s by 10 o’clock. Despite the gradual clearing conditions overnight (which would normally lead too a much colder morning), the mercury is expected to remain relatively stable into early Tuesday morning. The return of a southerly wind flow overnight will help keep the temperatures milder as we head towards daybreak.
