Today’s high temperatures in the mid to low 90s marked our hottest recorded in the Tri-State in at least 3 weeks. Worse yet, dew point values in the upper 60s made it feel oppressively hot earlier today - most of us reached the triple digits at times today. Believe it or not, temperatures are expected to get even hotter these next few days! After dipping back into the uppers 60s and low 70s during the predawn hours Tuesday, the mercury will skyrocket back into the mid to low 90s!
If we reach our anticipated high of 94 in Evansville, it will be the first time we do so since the afternoon of June 12th! Again, the added humidity will make our hottest afternoon in a month and a half feel even more stifling than it will already be - current model data suggests that while afternoon highs will be resigned to the mid 90s for most of us, those “feels like” temperatures will again reach and even surpass 100° for the majority of the Ohio Valley.
Unfortunately, our Wednesday looks like a virtual repeat of the previous afternoon - highs in the mid 90s with heat indices near 100°. Thursday on the other hand, will be nothing short of brutal and even potentially dangerous. The latest model data suggests that the mercury that afternoon could climb to its highest point since July 22nd of 2017 - Evansville’s projected high of 98° will mark the River City’s hottest in just over 4 years! The ample amount of humidity could push the “feels like” temperatures a whole 10° higher - while we could feel like 108° in Evansville, other spots across the Tri-State could reach 110° with the heat index!
