34-year-old Steven Eveland of Huntingburg, Indiana, was charged with Criminal Trespass, Criminal Mischief, Public Intoxication, Resisting Arrest, and more after police say they found him asleep in the old Family Video store in Jasper over the weekend.
According to the Jasper Police Department, officers responded to the old Family Video stores on W. 6th Street in Jasper after someone reported a person sleeping inside.
When they got there, officers say they found Eveland asleep on a whiskey bottle as a pillow. They say they woke him up and escorted him out of the building.
At the time, police say Eveland refused to identify himself, and that they believe it was because he had outstanding warrants in Dubois County for Domestic Battery and Invasion of Privacy.
According to police, Eveland refused to cooperate and became combative with officers. After being detained, police say he was identified through an ID located on him. They say he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of his arrest.
Police say they later learned that Eveland had also destroyed property belonging to Highland Ventures while inside the Jasper store, which is the parent company for Family Video.
Eveland remains in the Dubois County jail on no bond.
