The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library has launched a new literacy initiative for young readers in the community called "300 Books by 3rd Grade."

The new program challenges children to read 300 books by the beginning of their 3rd grade year.

EVPL says that while 300 Books by 3rd Grade compliments its "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten" program, which has been offered since 2019, readers don't have to complete 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten to begin 300 Books by 3rd Grade.

Kids who sign up for new the program can earn buttons when they have read 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, and 300 books.

You can find more information on the program on evpl.org/initiatives/3oo-books-by-3rd-grade.

Today's high temperature of 87° was our warmest in a week and a half - we last climbed that high on the afternoon of September 18th when we tipped the scales at 88°. The remainder of the evening will remain quite mild under clear skies; expect temperatures to first fall to 83° by dinnertime before dropping to 73° by 10PM. The clear skies and weak southerly wind flow will help keep temperatures relatively stable during the overnight and predawn hours - we'll wake up to a morning low of just 62° early Wednesday morning.
