The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation has announced a new incentive for substitute teachers working to support the district through the coronavirus pandemic.

The EVSC said Thursday that it was offering $40 per-day additional pay to substitute teachers as both an incentive and a "thank you."

"As we continue to deal with the increasing number of positive COVID-19 cases in our region, the EVSC recognizes the important role our substitute teachers play in supporting schools," the district said in a statement Thursday. "Conditions in Vanderburgh County will continue to be monitored to determine the time frame for which this additional compensation for subs will remain in place. #EVSCProud of these hard working members of our team!"

The district says the pay would be effective starting last Monday, Jan. 10, and will continue based on the current COVID-19 conditions in Vanderburgh County.

One day before the district's announcement, Vanderburgh County saw a record-high number of 656 new positive COVID-19 cases

Individuals interested in becoming a sub for the EVSC can find more information on the application process on the district's website.

It was another cool, though overall pleasant day across the Tri-State - after only seeing temperatures dive as low as 22° early this morning, peak temperatures ended up climbing a few degrees higher than Thursday's; that being said, Evansville’s high temperature of 27° Was still 15° below average for this time of the year. As for the evening ahead, temperatures will gradually fall for 23° around dinner time back down to 19° by10 PM. A weak northerly wind flow most of the night paired with our crystal clear skies will cause temperatures to of fall back down into the mid to low teens once again - Evansville's anticipated low temperature of 12° will mark or coolest since the morning of January 7th.
