The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation announced Monday that students within the district would continue to receive free meals for the rest of the school year.

According to EVSC, the extension of the free meals was made possible by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's extension of its summer meal waivers for the entire 2020-2021 school year, which was originally set to expire in December 2020.

The School Nutrition Association has been advocating for the waiver extensions, saying that they are vital for students and their families who may be struggling with food insecurity due to COVID-19.
