Officials with the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation discussed the district's mask policy for the upcoming school year on Thursday.
According to EVSC Superintendent Dr. David Smith, students and staff won't be required to wear masks in the classroom during the 2021-2022 school year.
"We're going to follow the recommendation of the CDC as well as the Indiana Department of Health," Supt. Smith said Thursday. "Masks are going to be strongly recommended for those that are not vaccinated. But that is not a requirement, it's a recommendation."
As stated in the EVSC's updated mask guidelines on its website, students and bus drivers will, however, still be required to wear masks while on the school bus as long as the federal transportation mask mandate persists.
