An Evansville man who serves as a youth leader at a local church was arrested on Thursday after being accused of sexual misconduct with a young girl, according to police.

The Evansville Police Department says 24-year-old Krystaphor Powers was arrested on one count of Sexual Misconduct with a Minor on Thursday.

According to Powers' arrest affidavit, he was serving as a youth leader at Calvary Temple Church in Evansville when the misconduct took place.

The arrest affidavit says that police began investigating the incident after Powers was reported by another member of the church who saw him kissing and hugging a young girl while in the building.

Police say that after that report was made, the girl was brought to Holly's House and interviewed.

According to police, the young girl said that her relationship had started with Powers a few months ago after he asked her to be his girlfriend over social media.

Police say that when they asked the victim if her relationship with Powers had gone any further than kissing and hugging, she said that it did. They say that the alleged incidents took place in the church's pantry and youth room, where there are no cameras.

Powers was booked into the Vanderburgh Jail where he remains on no bond. His probable cause hearing is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday.

It was another cool, though overall pleasant day across the Tri-State - after only seeing temperatures dive as low as 22° early this morning, peak temperatures ended up climbing a few degrees higher than Thursday's; that being said, Evansville’s high temperature of 27° Was still 15° below average for this time of the year. As for the evening ahead, temperatures will gradually fall for 23° around dinner time back down to 19° by10 PM. A weak northerly wind flow most of the night paired with our crystal clear skies will cause temperatures to of fall back down into the mid to low teens once again - Evansville's anticipated low temperature of 12° will mark or coolest since the morning of January 7th.
