The Evansville City Council will have a new president in 2021 after the council voted to approve Republican Ron Beane to the position.
It is the first time a Republican will hold that title for the Evansville City Council in more than 4 decades.

Beane was appointed to the position following a 7-2 vote by the council during its Monday meeting.
District 4 councilmember Alex Burton was the president last year.
Burton will assume the role of vice-president of the council in 2021 after his colleagues voted 7-2 to approve the nomination.
