A 36-hour winter weather system has left behind a thick layer of ice in the tri-state. In Evansville city crews were out early treating roads for 16 hours Wednesday. Overnight there were fewer trucks out but at 3:00 Thursday morning road crews were back out in full force.

It's been a couple years since the tri-state has experienced significant winter weather which means there is an extra supply of materials to treat area roads. Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says if temps are above 25 degrees city crews spread untreated salt and once temps fall below 25 a beet-juice brine is what is put down.

On Thursday morning Evansville city offices as well as some Vanderburgh County Courts did not open until 10a.m. Similarly, COVID-19 testing at the C.K. Newsome Center was pushed back until 10:00. If you need to be tested be sure to give yourself extra time to make your drive to downtown Evansville.
