Evansville Family Temporarily Displaced After House Fire

An Evansville family has been temporarily displaced after an early Sunday morning fire.

The Evansville Fire Department is investigating after a fire broke out in a family home Sunday morning.

A family of five, including two adults and three children are now displaced after an accidental fire started in the basement bedroom just after 9 a.m.

The house is located in the 1500 block of Weinbach Ave.

Division Chief Mike Larson says the only person home at the time woke up to the smell of smoke. They then immediately left the house and called went to a neighbors house. The neighbor then contacted 911.

It took EFD ten minutes to extinguish the flames.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family while repairs are made to the home.

Our third day in a row with very mild temperatures. Highs across the Tri-State were in the low and middle 60's. A few showers at times crossed the area. A cold front will push through the Tri-State and will cause a few strong storms, that could have strong winds and even some torrential rain. Some flash flooding is a possibility. Strong winds overnight switching from the southwest to the northwest and may gust as high as 30 mph.
