An Evansville man was arrested for the death of a Wayne County, Illinois teen, whose remains were found in a field outside of Fairfield in 2018.
24-year-old Brodey Murbarger was arrested Wednesday morning outside his job without incident. He was arrested following an Illinois grand jury indictment in late September for the 2014 disappearance/murder of Megan Nichols.
A Probable Cause Affidavit from the Wayne County Circuit Court Clerk's Office lists the following charges against Murbarger:
- First-degree murder- suffocation
- First-degree murder- strangulation
- First-degree murder- manner and means unknown
- Concealment of a homicidal death
- Criminal home invasion
- Criminal sexual abuse/penetration against a minor
In addition to Murbarger's arrest, a search warrant was served at his home in a westside apartment complex early Wednesday morning.
Nichols was 15 years old when she went missing from her Fairfield, Illinois home. She was initially considered missing until in 2018, her remains were found in a field in rural Wayne County.
FBI, along with many law enforcement organizations, worked on investigating what happened to Nichols.

Murbarger was transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail where he will await extradition to Illinois.
