An Evansville man was arrested and charged with Child Molestation on Monday after an affidavit says he threatened a victim in an effort to keep them quiet.
Police arrested 67-year-old Michael R. Mason on Monday after the underage victim reported him earlier in the week at Holly's House.
According to the affidavit, the victim said that Mason threatened to beat them after they said they were going to tell someone about what had happened.
After the victim and a witness were interviewed at Holly's House, Mason was brought in for questioning before being arrested.
Holly's House Executive Director Kristen Cordts said she is glad the victim reached out to the facility to help unravel this case.
"We are so excited that they found a welcome home here to provide that, and that they found trusted adults," said Cordts. "Children need to find and identify trusted adults that they can disclose truths to when something like this happens."
During Mason's first court appearance on Tuesday, his bond was set at $30,000 cash only and he was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
His next court date has been scheduled for July 2 at 1:00 p.m.
