A number of different charges have been filed against 31-year-old John A. Munoz after a weekend incident in Evansville.

Officers responded to the America's Best Value Inn on Tecumseh Lane on Sunday in reference to a domestic incident. Dispatch told officers that a man was on the scene in a red SUV and that he was dragging a female through the parking lot.

According to EPD, officers had been to the hotel in the past after Munoz had stolen a red Saturn Vue, resulting in a pursuit that Munoz had escaped from.

When officers arrived at the hotel Sunday, they say they found the stolen Saturn Vue occupied by a female. She was taken into custody and told officers that her daughter was the woman being dragged through the parking lot by Munoz.

We're told Munoz had been threatening to kill the woman, and that he pulled a knife on another man at the scene.

He was arrested and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on no bond on charges of Kidnapping, Battery Committed with a Deadly Weapon, Confinement, Auto Theft, and others.

"Our victim was very very lucky that something worse did not happen to her," said Sgt. Nick Winsett with the Evansville Police Department. "Anytime you have a domestic situation and weapon involved -- in this instance it was a knife -- it's very very scary. Some of these guys are just desperate and you don't know what they are capable off -- so we are very fortunate it was a peaceful resolution."

Investigators say once they are done working through his charges in Vanderburgh County -- he is likely headed over to Warrick County -- where he has a narcotics arrest warrant.

The bitterly cold start to our Wednesday will inevitably lead to a cooler-than-average afternoon across the Tri-State. We're currently expecting an afternoon high of 26° in Evansville on Wednesday afternoon (that’s 17° below average for this time of the year). Temperatures will once again dive back down towards the teens for many of us overnight and into early Thursday. As for right now Thursday morning looks as though will be slightly warmer, but only just - believes model data indicates that we will see a morning low temperature of 14° under partly cloudy skies in Evansville tomorrow morning.
