The Vanderburgh County Prosecutors Office said Thursday that an Evansville man had been found guilty of Rape, Incest, and OMVWI after an investigation by the Evansville Police Department and the prosecutor's office.

According to the prosecutor's office, 44-year-old Jerry Tyrone Cook Jr. of Evansville was found guilty of the above charges following a three-day trial.

The prosecutor's office says in 2019, a victim of a sexual assault had arrived at the emergency room and claimed a family member, Cook, was responsible.

"During the three-day trial, the jury was presented with DNA evidence and victim testimony characterizing the events that led up to the sexual assault," the prosecutor's office explains.

The jury found Jerry Tyrone Cook Jr. guilty of:

  1. Rape (Level 3 Felony)
  2. Rape (Level 3 Felony)
  3. Incest (Level 5 Felony)
  4. Operating a vehicle with an ACE of 0.15 or more (Class A Misdemeanor)

Following the verdict, Jerry Tyrone Cook Jr. was also found guilty of the Habitual Offender sentencing enhancement. His sentencing is set for Friday, Oct. 30.

“The victim in this case was willing to stand up and speak up,” explained Vanderburgh County Prosecutor Nick Hermann. “It’s that kind of bravery that we all should admire. We knew this victim deserved justice and it’s our job to deliver that.”

Today's high of 93° not only marks our hottest recorded temperature of the year, but our highest since the afternoon of August 10th of 2020! Despite the oppressive heat, the day itself wasn't necessarily unpleasant; while peak temperatures climbed abnormally high for this time of the year, a weak cold front passing to our south ushered in a breezy northerly wind flow that helped take the edge off that summer-like heat across the Tri-State earlier this afternoon. The evening ahead will remain quite pleasant, albeit mild - expect the mercury to dip from 87° to 75° between dinnertime and 10PM. Between the northerly winds and clear conditions overnight, morning low temperatures will trend toward the upper 50s and low 60s early Tuesday; we'll fall to 60° even in Evansville.
