The Evansville Police Department (EPD) on Wednesday announced the resumption of additional patrol activities, in accordance wth the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) Traffic Safety Grant Enforcement.

EPD says the grant started on June 15 and ends on June 30, and provides extra patrols for aggressive driving.

According to EPD Sergeant Nick Winsett, the point of the increased patrol through the grant is to help reduce or eliminate injury and fatal motor vehicle accidents.

“The whole reason for this grant is to help reduce our fatalities and injuries in motor vehicle accidents as a whole,” said Sgt. Winsett.

The increased patrols will focus on aggressive driving, seat belt violations, and intoxicated drivers in Evansville and Vanderburgh County.

Officers will be concentrating their efforts in high-crash intersections in an effort to further the chances of reducing or eliminating injury and fatality motor vehicle accidents.

Our snowy, slick start to the day gave way to a gloomy, gray and chilly afternoon throughout the Tri-State. After only reaching temperatures in the mid 30s early in the day, we will see temperatures gradually tumble back down into the upper 20s by 10 o’clock. Despite the gradual clearing conditions overnight (which would normally lead too a much colder morning), the mercury is expected to remain relatively stable into early Tuesday morning. The return of a southerly wind flow overnight will help keep the temperatures milder as we head towards daybreak.
