Tuesday, the Evansville Rescue Mission hosted their 100th Gobbler Gathering at the Old National Events Plaza. Every year, the Rescue Mission aims to give away 2,000 70-pound food boxes, with enough food to last 3-4 days.
"We work on it all year long, we just want it to be the best event possible, for the people that we're serving, they're important. We want them to have a thanksgiving just like the rest of us," says President/Ceo Tracy Gorman.
Last year, the event was held drive-thru style, but this year called for two assembly lines, fork lifts, and countless volunteers. The rescue mission was able to provide 140,000 pounds of Thanksgiving food, all donated by various organizations in the community. "We did not pay a dime, this community is amazing. We all know how to come together and support each other.
Gorman says the will start planning Gobbler Gathering 101, today.
