The Evansville Salvation Army says it found a 1-ounce Krugerrand in a kettle located at the east door of Hobby Lobby on Monday night.

The Red Kettle where the coin was found was staffed by volunteers of the Green River Kiwanis Club.

"The Green River Kiwanis has helped with The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign for many years, but this is a first," said Kiwanis Club President Charlie Beck. "This is good news for the Salvation Army as well as the Green River Kiwanis.”

Online pricing for 1-ounce Krugerrand coins shows them to typically be worth $1,000 or more.

It's a seasonable and dry start to Friday, but the heat is going to turn up this afternoon. Partly sunny skies will stick around with highs in the mid to upper 80s. The humidity may take the way it feels up a notch. Those southerly winds will help push in that moisture making it feel more like the low 90s. An isolated shower can't be ruled out, but any rainfall won't ruin our plans.
