On Friday, the Salvation Army of Evansville hosted a kick-off event with Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke, officially declaring the day as "Salvation Army Red Kettle Day" and commencing their annual holiday fundraiser.
Due to the increased need within the community caused by the pandemic, the campaign started a week earlier in 2020 than in past years.
The nonprofit organization's goal for 2020 is to raise $275,000, which would fund multiple efforts made by the organization toward community improvement and support.
Right now, the Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to help ring bells and raise funds in several areas across the Tri-State, including Henderson, Evansville, Boonville, and several parts of Gibson County.
Anyone who would like to volunteer can register at a local Salvation Army office or by filling out a form on the Salvation Army's website.
