The Vanderburgh County Health Department is back out in the community mobilizing their vaccine clinics.. However, this week has a special bonus-clinic.

On Thursday, the Vanderburgh County Health Department and the Black Nurse of Evansville will set up shop in the parking lot of Going Forward Barbershop and Salon. This clinic will double as a birthday party for Evansville community investor Melissa Morehead Moore.

Melissa wanted to use her birthday as an opportunity to get her community vaccinated. “I'm just wanting to use my voice as a woman, as a person of color to let them know it’s okay,” Moore says.

Her goal is to get at least 50 people immunized to represent her turning 50 years old. “Turning the big milestone birthday, turning the big 5-0, I really wanted to party. I wanted to have a great time with my family, friends, loved ones, great food, great fellowship. Unfortunately, with the pandemic, I just could not celebrate like I wanted to. So a thought came to me one early morning to have a 50th birthday COVID drive vaccination clinic and so here we are today,” Moore says.

The party will take place September 23rd, at the Going Forward Barbershop at 1220 E. Riverside in Evansville from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Moore says, “I am excited! I am wanting to see everyone's beautiful face that can come out that has not been vaccinated, to again, know that they are in a safe place, that it's a familiar place, and I am going to be right there the whole time cheering you on.”

The event is free and open to the public.

The first 50 people to come get vaccinated will get a complimentary birthday goodie bag, a cupcake, a chance to win prizes, and more. The first 5 people to get their immunizations will get a free haircut from Going Forward.

The Vanderburgh County Health Department will also be at the Walmart Neighborhood Market at 3430 Taylor Avenue that Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

They will also be offering vaccines at Wesselman Woods on Friday, September 24th, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
