Thursday marked the last day of operations for Evansville's mobile COVID-19 vaccine clinic - at least for now.

The mobile vaccine clinic began back in May through a collaboration between the Reopen Evansville Task Force, Vanderburgh County Health Department, and the Metropolitan Evansville Transit Service (METS).

We're told that since then, the weekly mobile clinics have administered approximately 300 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to individuals in the area.

"We've had such great luck that we're actually going to continue our mobile vaccine clinic," explained Ashley Libbert, Supervisor of Clinical Nursing at the Vanderburgh County Health Department. "It's going to start up again on July 6 and run through Aug. 26 on Tuesdays and Thursdays."

Libbert says the reasons behind ending the clinic temporarily on Thursday included the number of available doses. She also said the first two months of the vaccine clinic served as a trial period of sorts.

"It was just based off of the doses that we had available and the timing to make sure that people were getting first dose and second dose," Libbert told 44News. "And we wanted to see how that first initial two months went with the mobile vaccine clinic."

The mobile clinic's schedule for July 6 - Aug. 26 is as follows:

Tuesdays:

  • Ruler Foods at 4624 N. First Ave. from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Simpson's Grocery at 1365 Cover Ave. from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Thursdays:

  • 670 Lincoln Ave. across from Lincoln School from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Economy Grocery, 1200 N. Fulton Ave from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

In addition to those weekly locations, the METS mobile clinic will appear at special locations throughout the month like Zesto's on Franklin Street, Eastland Mall on N. Green River Road, the Vanderburgh County Human Society on Millner Industrial Dr, and more.
