After conducting club tryouts earlier this week, FC Evansville held a 3 day free camp for kids within the program wishing to participate.

“I was really excited because I get to interact with other people my age and being able to enjoy a game that we all love and thats just my passion really, I love soccer, said camper William Nurrenbern.

“It was really fun to play with my teammates again because I didn’t get to see them like forever. And this is really the only way we can be with each other,” said camoer Bella Cokley

“It was just nice to be around people again and if anything else, you’re doing things like this, when you’ve got a bunch of people that are being told to isolate and all that bit, you’ve got the mental health side of it too and it’s nice to be able to see your buddies again and being able to be around each other you get that camaraderie and it’s nice, said FC Evansville Coaching Director Tom Dragon.

In order to conduct camp safely, a number of different policies were put in place.

“I wash my hands before I come to practice and then when I get home. Coach makes us put our bags 6 feet apart and we don’t share water at all, and we try and stay pretty far away from each other when we gather around,” said Cokley.

“My parents told me to wear a mask whenever I walked up and got my temperature checked but then I would take it off whenever we had to do soccer and then also try to keep my water bottle and my bag at least 6 feet away. I try to get away from the group a little bit, said Nurrenbern.

Players will now go back to preparing themselves for school ball, but will be ready to return to their club teams should the pandemic force the cancellation of school games.

July 6th, that’s when they’re able to start doing school based soccer again. So a lot of your travel based teams will shut down, they’ll start their school based teams and then if by any chance the school based soccer gets shut down, travel will kick in immediately afterwards if we’re allowed to do so,” said Dragon.
