Father Charged in Daughter's Death Due in Court

The father of a 9-month-old girl who died in a shooting incident on Friday is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday afternoon.

In Evansville, many are still mourning the tragic death of a nine-month-old baby girl. Iowa Meriweather died Friday night after being shot inside an apartment. The nine-month-old was rushed to a hospital where she died.

Police have arrested Iowa's father. Anthony Meriweather is charged with felony child neglect resulting in death.

According to Evansville Police, Meriweather was handling a gun when it fired, hitting the baby girl in the back of her head. Iowa was said to be in her car seat on the floor of the living room in the apartment.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner's Office ruled Iowa's death as a homicide.

Meriweather is currently being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail on a $50,000 dollar cash bond. His initial appearance is scheduled for Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in Vanderburgh Circuit Court.

A Go-Fund-Me page has been set up to help Iowa's mother during this difficult time as well as help pay for funeral expenses. There is a $10,000 goal and so far, more than $3,000 has been donated.
