First Coronavirus Death Reported in Richland County, Illinois

The county's first COVID-19 death was reported by local health officials on Aug. 19.

The first coronavirus death in  Richland County, Illinois, was reported by local health officials on Wednesday.

The Richland County TB & Health Office reported the county's first coronavirus death, saying it was a female resident in her 80s. No further details about the woman who passed away were released due to privacy issues.

To date, 48 total positive cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Richland County residents.

Richland County TB & Health Office is asking the public to continue practicing preventative measures to slow the spread of COVID-19.

"The number of cases can be reduced by adhering to public health guidance on social distancing, washing hands frequently, wearing face coverings, disinfecting commonly touched surfaces, and staying home if you feel ill," Richland County TB & Health Office's Wednesday update stated.
