Free food assistance will soon be available in the Owensboro area.

The Owensboro Coalition of Concerned Churches (OCCC) is partnering with members of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, the USDA, and the Feeding America food bank coalition to provide food boxes on Friday, Oct. 23, 2020.

On Friday from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., the drive-through, no-contact food distribution event will be held in the parking lot of Sports Center at 1215 Hickman Ave. in Owensboro, Kentucky. Those attending the event are asked to enter the parking lot from Hickman Avenue off of Parrish Avenue.

For those without transportation to the event, the Owensboro Transit Service, at 430 Allen Street, will provide a shuttle van to and from the event and back to the Transit Station. Also, food boxes will be available for those who travel the yellow line during the time of the event.

Food available at the event will include fresh produce, dairy products, and meat products while supplies last.

The projected impact will provide relief to approximately 1248 families - No signatures required and no questions asked.

According to organizers of the event, all COVID-19 guidelines will be followed.

Conditions are dry, but chilly. Winds have strengthened out of the north making it feel bitterly cold. As we head into the overnight hours temperatures will fall into the mid 20s. As winds stay gusty out of the north it will make it feel more like the teens Sunday morning under clear skies. The majority of the Tri-State will remain dry come Sunday afternoon. There is a slim chance that some of our communities across the far southern reaches of the Tri-State could see some light snowfall early in the afternoon, but it's looking like it will stay south and east of the Tri-State. We'll climb to a high temperature of 38° with sunny and breezy conditions. Gusts out of the north could reach 25-30 MPH.
