In partnership with the Kentucky Division of Waste Management, the Daviess County Fiscal Court is sponsoring a free tire disposal event in Philpot, Kentucky.

The free tire disposal event is scheduled for Thursday, July 15, through Saturday, July 17, at the Daviess County Lions Club Fairgrounds in Philpot. Organizers say any Kentucky resident is eligible to participate.

Collection will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and from 7:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Tires that will be accepted (whether on or off the rim) include farm implement tires, bicycle tires, motorcycle tires, go-cart tires, ATV tires, tractor tires, truck tires, and passenger tires.

The site cannot accept Off-Road Construction Tires (OTR), tracks, sheet rubber, solid, calcium, or otherwise filled, or any tire with a bead greater than 1 ¾ in.

“Old tires can be an eyesore and a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other pests,” said Daviess County Judge-Executive Al Mattingly. “Bring your unwanted tires to this free collection event for proper disposal.”

Anyone bringing tires to the collection event is asked to remove water from tires prior to disposal.

The Daviess County Lions Club Fairgrounds is located at 6191 Highway 54 in Philpot, Kentucky.

Anyone with questions can contact the Daviess County Solid Waste Department at 270-229-4484.

After a damp start to our Monday, the rain and skies gradually cleared for many of us and we were left with a pleasant and breezy, albeit humid afternoon throughout the Tri-State. The southerly winds paired with the clearer skies later in the day helped drive temperatures back into mid to low 80s for many of us. The evening ahead should remain dry and mild; after seeing temperatures around 80° dinnertime and 75° by 10PM, we'll fall off to a morning low near 69° in Evansville early Tuesday morning.
