A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday for the new Gastroenterology (GI) Center on the Deaconess Gateway Campus in Newburgh, Indiana.
Deaconess showed off its plans for the new center, which is a 140,000 square foot facility that includes a variety of suites and clinics, specializing in treatments ranging from medical weight loss and GI quick care to clinical trials.
Officials close to the project are excited about the recent progress, with the process of erecting the new building being in the works now for several years.
"We're super excited here at Deaconess, our whole team," explained Shawn McCoy with Deaconess Health. "This has been in planning now for two or three years, where we could bring all of our GI services to one location and make it much more patient-friendly, and so we're super excited about it."
The new GI Center will allow patients with digestive disorders to receive all treatments in one location and will offer services to both adults and children.
The building will go up on the south side of the Deaconess Gateway Campus. It's expected to be completed in 2022.
