Political organization 'Liberty Is Essential', the political action committee established by 2020 Indiana gubernatorial candidate Donald Rainwater, says it plans to hold a rally on Tuesday at the Indiana State Capitol in Indianapolis in opposition of Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb's current COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.
According to a release issued by the organization on Monday, the rally is being held in support of the Indiana House concurrent resolution introduced on Nov. 17, 2020, by representative Curt Nisly (R-Milford), which calls for the termination of Gov. Holcomb's Public Health Emergency.
"Liberty Is Essential supports the concurrent resolution because Governor Holcomb’s continuing state of emergency runs afoul of the Indiana Constitution by limiting freedom of worship and by granting privileges and immunities to certain citizens arbitrarily," Liberty Is Essential's statement said Monday. "The continued state of emergency in Indiana erodes these essential Hoosier liberties, and irreparably harms the economy."
The group says that at the rally, it will advocate for Speaker of the House Todd Huston to call Rep. Nisly's resolution to a vote immediately.
Gov. Holcomb's latest renewal of the Public Health Emergency extended it through at least Jan. 30, 2021, and comes as the 10th extension of the Executive Order so far, since it was first issued on March 6, 2020.
