The Evansville Police Department's Hazardous Device Unit was called to the scene of a suspicious item in the parking lot of the Turoni's restaurant on Weinbach Avenue on Wednesday afternoon.
EPD Sergeant Anna Gray told 44News that the incident began on Wednesday afternoon when a subject who had a felony warrant out for his arrest was stopped in the area by police.
Sgt. Gray says the subject was taken into custody without incident, but that while his backpack was being searched, a suspicious item was noticed.
EPD's Hazardous Device Unit was called to the scene to investigate, but police say the unit was only called as a precautionary measure.
Weinbach Avenue was shut down from Franklin Street to the Lloyd Expressway for a brief time, but the scene has since been cleared and the road has fully reopened.
No further information has been released on the incident at this time but we'll update this developing story as we learn more.
